Key takeaways:
How to create content that genuinely connects with your audience and supports your goals.
Why being intentional will help your content cut through the noise.
Tips to extend the life and impact of every piece of content you create.
We know that it can feel like there’s a lot of pressure to show up online! Just this week, we’ve come across advice that says you should be blogging at least twice a month, adding new Pins to Pinterest 25 times a week, and posting to TikTok multiple times a day… but what if we said that none of that content matters if it has no deeper purpose?
So what do we mean by purposeful content?
Great question!
To us, purposeful content is...
… giving your audience something. Whether it’s a moment’s entertainment or a series of tips to help them tackle their biggest challenge, purposeful content leaves your audience feeling glad they stopped by.
… strategic to your goals. Maybe it’s content that helps connect with your audience by making them laugh, or underlines your expertise when you teach them something new.
Purposeful content will help you stand out from the crowd
There is a lot of noise out there online! 😬
From millions of TikToks that jump on a trend without adding anything new, to Instagram carousels that don’t live up to expectations, a lot of people are posting for the sake of posting right now.
But what does that mean for you?
Well, it means that if you have valuable content to share, you can really make your mark! Consistently showing up with original and unique content that always meets your audience’s needs will help you build trust and stay memorable.
Great content has an amazing lifetime
One great idea can become so many pieces of content!
Think about it. You could write one blog post, and use it to create an Instagram carousel, script a video, create TikToks from the video, direct traffic from Pinterest… if you’ve got something truly worthwhile to share, it’s worth taking that idea across multiple platforms. We’ve heard of people getting traffic from Google and Pinterest for years, even a decade, because that original blog post was so relevant and in demand.
When you create with purpose, you create content that can be recycled easily, and that will last in the minds of your audience too.
Purposeful content will get shared by your audience
Ever feel like half your time is spent trying to highlight the post, video, or podcast you just shared?
When it’s purposeful content, your audience will do that work for you! We all love word-of-mouth recommendations, and content that is so good it’s been shared by somebody we respect is way more likely to get our attention. Content that has a little bit of intention behind it will be far more likely to get shared, recommended, bookmarked, or maybe even go viral.
Purposeful content will get you where you want to go
If you are already investing time in creating content, then why not spend that little extra time making sure it will move you forward? Posting scattergun-style will help you make some noise, sure, but posting with some strategy, defined goals, and a clear direction for what you need your audience to do next will be so much more impactful to the direction of your business.
