Itโ€™s official! The social media networks have spoken, and video remains a massive focus for all leading platforms in 2023. According to the big hitters of the social media world its time to double down on video, with:

โ€

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Facebook reporting that while users are posting less, theyโ€™re spending more time on the app thanks to video entertainment

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Instagram has reported that user time in app is up 24% since the introduction of Reels

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Twitter (or X, depending on who you ask!) is also making strides in focusing on video

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ And Pinterest now allows users to share videos up to five minutes in length (source)

And as for TiKTokโ€ฆ well, enough said! ๐Ÿ˜‚

So, with every major platform honing in on video, right now, why is it so important to start filming videos of your own?ย

โ€

The focus of social media platforms today is increasingly about entertainment, not connection

Remember when Facebook was about sharing your every thought, and when Instagram was all about the #foodgram?

With the rise of TikTok as an entertainment-focused platform, weโ€™ve seen the others follow.ย

Instead of connecting users with people they already follow, TikTok has led a shift towards apps showing content from unknown users with the goal of entertainment.

The truth is that these platforms want us to spend more time on their apps, and video has proven to be a far more successful way to achieve this than anything else.

โ€

Video is an incredibly personal medium

There is no denying, lots of us feel somewhat jaded in the ways we are being marketed to. We did a blog not long ago about the rise of imperfect content, a trend of unfiltered posts that push away perfectionism. With the rise of AI, we want to feel we are being spoken to by real people. The medium of video achieves this goal so well.

Ready to put some heart, humour, and humility into your business? Don't snooze on video.ย

Weโ€™ve shared some tips to get you started here, but essentially, don't overthink it and have fun with it!ย

โ€

Video is versatile

โ€

Weโ€™ve talked before about how blog posts can be recycled in so many ways, but video also yields lots of chances to recycle!

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Reuse your โ€œB-rollโ€ shots (clips of you doing your day-to-day think) across multiple videos about different topics, to create variety for your audience as they watch you talk.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Repurpose your YouTube videos for Instagram Stories or Reels; use your scripts for written social media posts such as carousels.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Highlight your bloopers! Humanise your brand with occasional blooper reels of the times you fluffed up mid-recording. Hannahโ€™s got a few of these up her sleeve ๐Ÿ˜‚

โ€

The truth is, video CAN work for all businesses and personal brands. Itโ€™s all about giving it a go and finding your flow with it. Donโ€™t worry if itโ€™s not perfect, because guess what? Thereโ€™s no such thing.ย

Embrace the imperfect and get going - your audience will thank you for it.ย
